A little about me…

As an educator, I aim to develop independent, thoughtful flutists who excel in their craft and find joy in making music, no matter where life leads them. I enjoy teaching flutists of every age and level, and am always interested in meeting enthusiastic and hard-working students!

Drawing from my own experiences, I most enjoy sharing the joys and benefits music can bring, and helping students make the connection between their study and everyday life. The habits and discipline we practice in music translate to all walks of life, and as we develop into stronger musicians, we also grow into strong problem-solvers, community members, and leaders.

I approach music from a classical perspective, and through a study of standard and lesser known repertoire, we will explore the styles and techniques that are the core of modern flute playing. My teaching style is warm and responsive, and I take pride in watching my students become their own best teacher. I offer an inquisitive approach where we work to expand active listening and critical thinking skills, as well as executive functioning strategies like time management and organization. Building solid technique, carving a resonant sound, and expanding musical expression are cornerstones of our work together.

Students are expected to be active participants in their study, taking ownership of their goals and the learning process, and willing to participate in studio events. Students are also encouraged to participate in local festivals, such as Solo & Ensemble and All-State, and take part in other area ensembles to further their musical experience and growth. Our studio is a warm and positive learning ground, where students are challenged to try new things and celebrate each other’s growth. I hope that my students will find friends within the studio and feel at home in our shared community.
